Do your homework

We're not the only school out there, and we understand that the way we do things might not be for everyone. This is why we recommend doing a bit of research before settling on a school. Talk to instructors, graduates, and current students from a few different schools if you can, and make sure to keep your goals front and centre. Pro tip: be wary of professional recruiters!

Identify your hard skills

Some of the best CG artists we've ever seen have little to no drawing skills. Sometimes the traditional arts don't always translate to what we teach. Don't be too intimated if you're not your typical artist. Identify the skills you have- whether it's drawing, computer skills, or sculpting- and we'll personalize your training to really harness what you bring to the table.

It takes a village, doesn't it? We know that every student has a network of support behind them, that are just as invested in their success as they are. We're here to answer any questions you may have about the school, the programs we offer, what a career in CG looks like, and what we do to give everyone of our graduates a leg up in what is a highly competitive (but rewarding) industry.

How often do Think Tank programs start?
Are there Tuition payment options?
Think Tank offers a number of flexible tuition payment options. While you are welcome to pay your tuition in full upon acceptance to a program, we also have instalment payment options. These are designed based on the individual student and their needs. Please speak with the Think Tank Admissions Team for more information.

What can I expect to pay in Tuition at Think Tank
What can I expect from Think Tank's admissions process?
Does Think Tank require an application fee?
Is there an age and/or high school requirement for Think Tank?
Is there an English proficiency requirement for Think Tank?
Prior to acceptance, applicants must meet at least one of the following English language proficiency requirements:
- Completion of 3 years of full-time secondary education (Grades 8-12), or 2 years if the Grades are 10, 11, or 12, have been successfully completed from a country where English is one of the principal languages, or...
- Completion of 2 years of full time post-secondary experience at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction, or...
- Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no more than two years before the start date of the program.
  
  Recommended English language proficiency tests:
  • Duolingo English Test: minimum overall score of 95 or higher.
  
  Note: This is the most affordable and convenient test (available online with quick results!)
  Other Accepted Tests:
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): minimum overall score of 5.5 or higher.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT: minimum overall score of 46 or higher.
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test: minimum overall score of 40 or higher.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: minimum overall score of 43 or higher.
  
  If you have yet to take your English proficiency test, and/or are taking English lessons, you're welcome to complete your Think tank application now and submit the results later. As long as you meet the English proficiency score before the first day of school, you'll be able to start your program.

What is the GuardMe Student Support Program?
The GuardMe Student Support Program (GMSSP) connects you with free, confidential emotional health and wellbeing support conveniently available 24/7 via the app, telephone and web.

This is the first support program to use linguistically and culturally matched licensed clinicians, providing students a welcoming place where they are comfortable to seek help. GuardMe is available in both internationally and in multiple languages. Learn more about this program on their website here.

All Think Tank students are required to subscribe to the GMSSP. There is an additional mandatory charge of $5.00CAD/month which covers unlimited use of the program.
Are there breaks in classes throughout the year?
Yes! There are Study Breaks, Term Breaks and Statutory Holidays.

Study Breaks
Online and Campus programs have three 1 to 2 week Study Breaks a year: Spring (March), Summer (July), and Winter (December). During these periods there are no Online Live Sessions and Campus attendance is not mandatory (instructors may host make-up classes on Campus during this time which you may be expected to attend).

NOTE: We recommend using these breaks to work on your projects and assignments. Spending the whole time on vacation will result in you falling behind.   

Upcoming Study Breaks: Winter Break: December 22, 2025 - January 3, 2026—No classes (Campus hours TBD)

Term Breaks
Online and Campus programs have three two-week Term Breaks between each term: late January, late May, and late September (sometimes into October).

NOTE: Take some time to relax during these periods, but make sure to stay up-to-date on your CG skills and ongoing projects, so you come back to Think Tank prepared for your upcoming term!  

Upcoming Term Breaks:  

Term Break 1: Jan 19 - Feb 2, 2026—No classes. Regular Campus hours Jan 19-25 / Campus closed Jan 26 - Feb 2, 2026

Statutory Holidays
Think Tank observes British Columbia's recognized Federal and Provincial Statutory Holidays. Campus is generally closed during these dates. NOTE: Live Sessions for Online students might still occur on these dates.
Does Think Tank accept mature applicants?
Yes! Think Tank consistently has mature artists who apply for, and succeed within, our programs!

If an Applicant is 19 years or older at the start of the program and is a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident who cannot access is their educational records or provide sufficient evidence of secondary or post-secondary education as outlined above:
- Applicant provides attestation that they have completed at least three years of full-time instruction in English in a country where the English is one of the principal languages, and...
- Applicant completes an Accuplacer English Assessment (Next Generation: Reading, Writing and WritePlacer) and achieves the following minimum scores:
  • Reading: 235
  • Writing: 235
  • WritePlacer: 4
